How It All Started

Longmoors Farm Enterprises began trading in 1967 from Longmoor Farm Aston Abbotts.

Our founder was Mr Donald Bellingham AFC DFC, a former World War 2 RAF bomber pilot/trainer. After the war he started farming and joined British Overseas Airways Corporation and gained promotion to become Fleet Captain.

The most famous flight Mr Bellingham piloted was to American President John F. Kennedy's funeral in 1963. He had Prime Minister Sir Alec Douglas-Home, leader of the opposition Harold Wilson and Liberal leader Joe Grimond as passengers on this flight.

Don Bellingham started supplementing his farming with local farm contract work. For this he bought low horsepower 4WD Zetor tractors.

His customers were so impressed with the Zetors performance and inquired where they could be bought so Don Bellingham started supplying them to local farmers and so the present company was started.

Planning permission could not be obtained at Longmoor Farm so, after a long search, the Forge at Quainton was purchased in 1973. This site had existing planning consent as an Agricultural Engineering depot. The Quainton site opened in March 1974, additional staff were added and trading then grew at a phenomenal rate utilising the entire site and more.

Tractors, Combine Harvesters and machinery was the main business until Honda All Terrain Vehicles and garden machinery were added to the mix in the early 1980s. We soon outgrew the Quainton site due to the volume of machinery being sold.

In 1988 Donald Bellingham retired, selling the business to four members of staff as a management 'Buy-Out'. The present site in Kingswood was purchased in 1988 and with one large new building constructed, all departments could operate in a much more efficient way from the purpose built site.

Customer parking and access are a huge improvement on this 'Out of Town' site.

We opened in March 1990 just before interest rates peaked at 15%
